They are like varicose veins but smaller and start out as blue or red squiggles. You will find these on the surface of your thighs, calves or ankles, and appear red, blue or purple. About one third of the adult female population suffers from this problem. It is possible for spider veins to be associated with larger varicose veins located deeper within the skin.
